TAILORED FACE-TO-FACE AND ONLINE MATHS TUTORING IN BALLARAT

Children Gain Vital Skills Through Maths Tutoring

If you like the idea of experienced teachers who address your child’s specific needs, consider sending your primary or secondary-aged child to us for maths tutoring in the Ballarat region. We modify the learning environment based on each child’s interests, strengths and learning style while identifying their learning needs. We combine precise, quality instruction and a fun, hands-on, play-based approach children enjoy. They overcome maths anxiety, gain confidence and self-esteem while learning. They improve their study habits and shape the skills they need to succeed at school and later in life.

Our maths programs follow the learning outcomes from the Victorian Curriculum, with three experienced teachers who understand how to differentiate learning for children, having all previously worked in classroom settings as classroom teachers and/or in a Principal role.

We focus on explaining concepts to encourage in-depth understanding while working one-on-one, whether face-to-face in your home or at our offices,  online, or in a small group.  Students’ abilities expand year after year while they study at their own pace and develop the capacity to use learned skills.

Students can ask questions and clarify problems in a safe, personalised environment. They learn valuable critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will assist them in whichever career path they choose.

Learning Programs Offered

Secondary Exam Prep for students in Years 7-10 as well as Homework classes

At specific times of the year, we offer 4 x one hour sessions for  exam preparation with our secondary teacher, Miss M. This 4 week program will help your child prepare for upcoming exams, clarify any content they need to revise and ensure they feel confident and well-prepared for their exams.

Homework sessions involve a small group of secondary students working through their homework tasks under the direction and guidance of a qualified secondary teacher, Miss M. These sessions run for one hour each on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Hands on Maths sessions for children aged 5-16

If your child finds maths concepts difficult or just needs some extra support to 'catch up', we can offer 1:1 or small group sessions for both primary and secondary students.

Primary maths sessions run for 45 minutes and secondary maths sessions run for 60 mins.

Miss M, Kathy and Calvin facilitate the delivery of these sessions.

Reading Intervention sessions for children aged 5-16

At Rise Up Education, we use evidence based approaches to the teaching of reading, which includes using the Sounds-Write phonics programme to ensure the development of successful and confident readers.

Reading intervention sessions are 45 minutes and each child's phonics and phonological knowledge is assessed using diagnostic assessments in order to determine their strengths and any gaps in their knowledge. These reading intervention sessions are facilitated by Calvin and Kathy, both Sounds Write trained practitioners.

School Readiness sessions for Pre-school aged children

School readiness sessions are planned and facilitated by Kathy, founder of Rise Up Education, who is also a qualified Early Childhood teacher with many years experience in the Prep classroom. The 10 week course focuses on -

  • Writing own name and correct letter formation

  • Social interaction through small group activities

  • Holding and using scissors correctly

  • Development of fine motor skills

  • Counting/maths skills using hands on materials

  • Developing confidence to say goodbye to Mum or Dad on the first day of Prep

how our teachers can help your child succeed in maths

Once a child overcomes their fear or dislike of maths, they may realise that careers they have not considered have become an option as they mature. Engineers, scientists, auditors, computer programmers, carpenters, and financial professionals – to name a few – all require excellent maths abilities. Employers prefer hiring candidates with maths skills, even if the job is not maths-based.

Besides requested follow-up activities, we provide all the assessments, resources and personalised planning the students need during these maths tutoring sessions in Ballarat.

Maths Tutoring for Children

Give Your Child the Gift of Literacy Intervention

Why is early and effective literacy intervention tutoring, from experienced teachers at Rise Up Education, necessary for your child?

Literacy is essential for development, whether personal, social, or economic. The ability to read and write is a critical skill enabling learning and growth.

At an individual level, reading and writing feed knowledge, allow people to express thoughts and feelings, are crucial for communication, and help expand an understanding of the world. Socially, it helps individuals access vital information and engage meaningfully in their communities. It is the door to opportunity and a more fulfilled life.

Classrooms are very busy places and sometimes children can feel as though they are being left behind. If you have concerns about your child's reading progress, don't wait until the gap widens. Early intervention is crucial to enable children to catch up and reach their full potential.

Research proves that a structured, explicit and systematic approach to the teaching of reading is essential, which is what we offer at Rise Up Education, using the evidence based Sounds-Write program.

how Can we Assist Your Child to become a confident reader?

I've structured my synthetic phonics programme using the evidence-based approach called Sounds-Write. The English alphabet has 26 letters and 44 sounds and 175 ways to represent those sounds. Phonics is the method of teaching children to read and write. This is done by linking sounds (phonemes) and the symbols that represent them (graphemes). This programme is structured to enable the delivery of a quality, linguistics programme to support successful reading outcomes.

Children learn to segment and blend sounds, develop alphabet code awareness and knowledge and develop polysyllabic (syllable) knowledge.
